STATE OFFICIALS RECOMMEND ANNUAL ELECTRICAL POOL INSPECTIONS

North Carolina Health & Safety officials are recommending routine Electrical Pool Inspections. If you manage or own a public pool your inspector should include this recommendation with a copy of the invoice. Over 250 electrocutions are caused each year in the U.S. by faulty electrical equipment used in public pools. Obviously the older the pool is the greater the concern to have it inspected. If you have not had an electrical inspection in the last 2 years IT'S HIGHLY RECOMMENDED you do so. Pool lighting, pumps, faulty wiring and grounding can all cause a pool to become electrically charged.
WRAL as well as other local T.V. Stations have been covering this story heavily in recent months due to the electrocution and drowning of a local teenage lifeguard because the pool she managed became electrically charged. The pool had not had an electrical inspection since 1979! Unbelievable! State law requires pool inspections however it does not require the electrical system to be inspected. Local officials are lobbying to make electrical inspections mandatory. They are not expensive, most ranging from $175 - $400 depending on the pool size. This is a small price to pay for peace of mind and to protect the public.
You can see the WRAL 5 On Your Side episode from earlier this year regarding pool inspections and what State Officials are trying to do to prevent hazards in the coming Seasons.
